Amels Custom 78

by Frank Stevenson6 September 2021 in Motoryachts, no comment

The Amels 78m Full Custom was set afloat in the presence of her designers and the owner’s team, while the Dutch shipyard has also sold the third Amels 200 Limited Editions.

During a private event held at the Amels and Damen Yachting Vlissingen City shipyard, the Amels 78m Full Custom superyacht reached a major milestone as she touched water for the first time since arriving at the yard in January last year.

In the presence of the owner’s team, the yacht’s designers, as well as Amels and Damen Yachting staff, the pumps to the dry dock were started. As the water flowed into the dock, the keel was submerged, floating the 255-footer up off her dry dock.

Daan Langezaal, Amels and Damen Yachting Project Manager, said: “When we started the pumps and she floated for the first time, it really was a moment of great pride. As a Full Custom, this yacht is very different to the last 40 we have delivered in terms of design, engineering and project requirements.”

Espen Øino and his team were appointed by the owner to develop the exterior design and general arrangement, while Zuretti Interior Designers are behind the custom interiors.

Wino said: “It’s definitely a unique project. The large, open top deck, large aft pool and very wide side decks that can be utilised as private guest balconies are features which come together to make this design very special.”

Scheduled to be handed over in 2022, the 2,850GT build will be the largest Amels superyacht to date in terms of volume on delivery and has accommodation for 14 guests and 26 crew plus captain.

In June, the yard announced the sale of the third Amels 200, which is scheduled for delivery in early 2024. Rob Luijendijk, Amels and Damen Yachting Sales Director, worked with the owner during the sale of the 1,015GT superyacht.

“We are both proud and excited to be building this new 60m Amels 200 for our client,” Luijendijk said. “We very much look forward to embarking on the build journey with them.”

An evolution of the Amels 188, the 197-footer features an exterior by Tim Heywood and shares much of her predecessor’s naval architecture, high volume and hybrid electrical power technology.

Like the first two hulls launched earlier this year, the third Amels 200 also features a four-deck elevator, air-conditioned gym on the sun deck and full-height windows in the owner’s suite. It will have accommodation for 12 guests and 12 crew plus captain.

For the interiors, the client has selected Winch Design, which is working on its first Amels 200 having worked on many other Amels Limited Editions models.

Hull one, Stella M, recently became the first Amels 200 to be delivered, departing the Damen Yachting Vlissingen City shipyard for a summer season cruising the Mediterranean.
