In 2015, the French shipyard Catana, which has been producing performance catamarans for 35 years, set off on a different path by introducing the Bali range of travel catamarans. The Bali models, which consist of five models between 40 and 70 feet, bear Olivier Poncin’s exterior design and Xavier Fay’s interior design. Models with Catana DNA protection and open spaces were brought to the fore in a short time with little compromise on performance. Bali Catamarans, which has become the world’s third largest catamaran manufacturer in five years, continues its production in three shipyards, two in France and one in Tunisia.
Today, catamarans have become the favorite of sailing owners and motor yacht owners who want to grow their boats with their large living spaces, ease of use and relatively low operating costs.


USEFUL DESIGN
When we first see the boat pontoon immediately attracts our attention with its majesty. 5.4 with a full paint of 16.80 meters, width of 8.74 meters, the largest in the Bali series. The model is bulky, with high bodies and blunt bows extending from the stern to a large mirror.
The stern on the main deck, especially for users with a motor yacht history, will certainly be an attraction as it offers uninterrupted rest space when combined with the lounge. Another remarkable feature of the boat is the upward opening doors on each hull. This provides direct access to the stern cabins.


The entire area is overshadowed by the flybridge extension, which is strongly supported by large stainless steel outriggers and connects seamlessly with the hall; When you press a button, the door in the stern raises and you have a wide range of usage. The door can be selected manually or hydraulically.
The hall has an upright dining table surrounded by an L-shaped seating group. Its positioned just ahead of the kitchen. There is a navigation section on the starboard and steps down to the cabins. Thanks to this layout, a door to the head deck is provided from the front of the hall. The lounge is spacious and bright and spacious thanks to the large windows. When the head deck door and the large windows in the hall are opened, an extraordinary air circulation is created inside. In this way, you can easily spend time in the Aegean and Mediterranean seasons without the need for air conditioning. This solution was very smart considering the hum of the air conditioner and the generator noise in the iron.


The hall has large, deep cupboards on the head. The 615-liter, home-style refrigerator with ice maker and the large U-shaped Corian worktop allows for comfortable working in the kitchen.
The separate steering section features several display screens and the main control panel. You manage the whole boat from the rudder in flybridge.
The cabins are accessed from the steps in front of the hall or from the doors on the stern deck.


There are four cabins, all with private bathrooms. Double island bed cabins are not flashy or private, but have plenty of storage and closet space with useful features. In the charter version of the model, up to six cabins can be reached, which explains why this model is also often used in charter use.
Flybridge can be reached easily thanks to the large spiral steps on both starboard and port sides. Above, flat decks and the same level of hatches offer an unobstructed walking area. The large U-shaped seating group surrounds Flybridge. There’s two folding tables in the middle. A large sunbathing area is obtained by removing the back cushions of the sitting group. The GRP ceiling in our test boat and covering the flybridge was created as a result of Kutluhan Yerguz’s work in line with the needs and is now offered as an option. If required, flexible solar panels to be added to this ceiling or deck allow the boat to meet all electricity needs without the need for a generator while in iron.


With the lifting of the net on ten decks, a large socializing area with seating and sunbathing areas was obtained. Here you can easily cruise without too much exposure to the wind.
NAVIGATION
At the helm, all the electronics can be controlled from the Raymarine navigation screens. Sailing is extremely simple to use. Scots come from under deck to cranes. Anayelken and Genoa cranes are electric, so you can easily sail and close without consuming much power. Bali 5.4 uses a self-tacking jib. The sail controls are carried out from the one starboard on the starboard side. These include scaffolding cranes located at the port and starboard and at a short distance from all scaffolding from the mast.


INFUSION BODY
Catana, which produces performance boats that come to the forefront with its sailing, has used epoxy and closed cell technology in its Bali series. Boats manufactured with infusion foam molding system are lighter and more robust than their predecessors.


Thanks to the closed-cell foam technology used, they can be used without problems for years like water absorption and osmosis. The middle part of the boat is poured in one piece from the lowest point of the water section to the junction of the hull during the production, which gives the boat extra strength and strength.
Classically used in a sailing catamaran, there is no space in the back and the net Balinese in the front. The entire head and stern are covered with fiberglass, resulting in both a rigid body form and a wide range of applications. The Bali’s trunks that touch the water are narrower and expand with a jaw above. This ensures high performance against the wave in the head seas. The lightness of the boat, pulling the mast out of the mainland, and thanks to its high board, it does not hit the head and stern and provides safe navigation in all sea conditions.
