by Nautor’s Swan has announced a new Swan 108 and the sale of its first hull, while the Finnish builder has also sold the first Swan 88.
Swan has announced the sales of hull one of the newly announced Swan 108 as well as the first Swan 88, which will be the brand’s first hybrid electric-propulsion yacht. The models are part of a new-look Maxi Swan range that also includes the Swan 98 – the first two hulls launched last year and the third will set sail soon – and the Swan 120, scheduled to launch later this year.
German Frers, who has designed all models in the current Swan Yachts and Maxi Swan ranges, designed the naval architecture of the Swan 108, Lucio Micheletti handled exterior design, while Misa Poggi has designed the interior.
Frers said: “We always start a project with a clean slate to investigate and double-check the choices available and closely match the briefs from the sales force. There is no specific change once you go over 100ft, but just continue observing the mathematics and laws of physics, specifically length changes linearly, areas are squared, volume is cubed, stability varies to the fourth exponent.”
The helm stations have been moved forward and higher to enhance visibility, freeing the aft part of the cockpit for sunbathing, relaxation and the beach club area. The cockpit can be flush or feature a step in the aft deck area, while the coachroof has an extralarge companionway leading to the saloon.
The interiors are designed by Poggi with Nautor’s interior team and feature a bright saloon, with three levels of windows. Accommodation includes a forward owner’s suite and three en-suite guest cabins, while a separate crew quarters include three cabins and a crew mess.
“Air, light, space: these are the three pillars I bear in mind while designing a Swan,” Poggi said. “I work with materials and colours obtained from a careful selection, thinking above all about the tactile and visible sensation to achieve different moods. Everything should give the idea of being immersed in a bright space in perfect harmony with the outside.”
